On March 26, 1777, the 19-year old Marquis de La Fayette set sail for America in secret in defiance of his king and under threat of arrest. He boarded La Victoire at Bordeaux—a ship he had financed and filled with men and arms at his own personal expense—and set sail for America to fight for the cause of liberty alongside the American rebels.
This singular act of courage forged an alliance that forever changed the destiny of my country, my family, and my passion; American whiskey.
